Crisis communications

Years of efforts in building up relationships with clients and stakeholders can be destroyed in a few weeks of bad coverage – especially if damaging news stories are compounded by mistakes in the way that the media are handled.

Communicating well during a crisis can make all the difference between a brand’s survival and lasting, sometimes irreparable, damage. There are many crucial decisions to be taken that will determine how damaging the crisis is: whether to give media interviews, whether to issue a statement or appear in person, whether to subject yourself to questions or whether to say nothing for fear of making a situation worse. Equally, the tone of public utterances can be critical in swaying the public to be instilled with a sense of confidence.

Apollo can help with all these judgements. Our people have had to deal with some of the biggest crisis stories: from fuel price riots and terrorist strikes to corporate bailouts and rail crashes. We work with clients to take part in emergency preparedness exercises and maintain an up-to-date crisis communication plan, outlining worst-case scenarios and remedies, suggested answers to questions, and ‘elephant traps’ that they may face. We also have an expert team of media trainers on hand to help support our approach
